Philosophy

The faculty of Saint Paul School understands that children learn through modalities. We provide a variety of activities that address every student's learning style. Teachers strive to connect present studies to future needs. Students know that our school is a safe environment where faculty and staff love and respect them as individuals allowing for an atmosphere of learning.

Program Objectives

Religion

The overall purposes and objectives of our religion program at Saint Paul School are: to foster an awareness of God as Creator, Jesus as Savior, and the Holy Spirit as Guide; to develop an understanding of the Kingdom of God by fostering a gospel sense of love and respect; to help build up the Kingdom of God through service to mankind; to appreciate and to value the dignity and uniqueness of one's self and others; to deepen one's faith and share it with others.

Language Arts

The overall purposes and objectives of our language arts program are for our students to develop effective reading, writing, listening and speaking skills as well as familiarity with the technology that will support them in these areas. We further seek to nurture an appreciation for and love of literature and various genres and to expose students to a diverse body of literature.

Mathematics

The overall purposes and objectives of our mathematics program are to ensure that students receive an engaging curriculum emphasizing the connection between math and daily life. The students will learn the value of math, become confident in their ability to do math, think critically and solve problems using many strategies including technology, communicate their mathematical ideas, and develop a life-long enjoyment of math.

Science

The overall purposes and objectives of the science program are to prepare students for a Christian life through a carefully balanced program of knowledge, skills and experiments relevant to their world. The science program serves as a tool toward developing literate citizens aware of their responsibility to others, and to the environment. We strive to awaken the beginnings of scientific awareness and to develop vocational talents in scientific, technological, and related fields.

Social Studies

The overall purposes and objectives of our social studies curriculum aim to help students move from an understanding of families, neighborhoods, communities, and regions to a more comprehensive and in-depth study of our nation and our world. We explore history, civics, geography, and economics through a variety of educational experiences including critical thinking, research projects, cooperative learning activities, and the application of these skills to real world situations. Interwoven throughout the studies is the underlying goal of creating knowledgeable young people of faith who are eager to live out their faith by making Jesus’ gospel message of peace and justice come alive in daily life. By the time students graduate they will have the capability to become leaders and productive citizens in our increasingly diverse and technological world.

Technology

The overall purposes and objectives of our technology program include preparing our students to take their place in a technological world. Students will have the ability to make decisions that are morally and ethically sound using technology. Students will have the knowledge and skills to compete in a society reliant upon technology.

Spanish

The overall purposes and objectives of our Spanish curriculum are to help students learn the Spanish language and understand the different aspects of the Spanish culture. We explore the basics of the language, as well as specific vocabulary and certain verbs. By graduation, our goal is for our students to be able to understand basic Spanish and be able to express themselves through the Spanish language.

Health

The overall purposes and objectives of our health program include providing the students with an understanding of the human body and the means to keep the body functioning properly through nutrition, physical fitness and a positive state of mind that will allow for high self-esteem and sound decision making. The goal of the health program is to provide a solid foundation at an early age so that many of life’s difficulties will be minimized or prevented altogether. This course helps establish this foundation, providing our students with the guidelines needed for them to achieve their full potential.

Physical Education

The overall purposes and objectives of the physical education program are designed to help students develop in many areas. Through physical education, overall health is improved, setting a foundation that will enable an individual to participate in physical activities and contribute to a healthy lifestyle. Students learn to work as individuals, as well as with others, toward the achievement of their goals. In addition to the physical benefits, activities will also help to improve a student’s interpersonal relationships, self-esteem and responsibility. Upon graduation, students should possess a positive self-image, a sense of unity, teamwork, fair play and an understanding of the importance of physical education.

Art

The overall purposes and objectives of the art program are for our students to develop an appreciation for all forms of art, see the connection of art in all areas of the curriculum and foster each student’s creative abilities.

Choral Music

The overall purposes and objectives of the choral music program in grades 1-5 are for our students to develop an appreciation and understanding of the various styles of music.
